“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” debuted season six on Nov. 3 and immediately afterward Kandi Burruss and Kenya Moore stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse to talk about the big premiere with Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live.” The enlightening 30-minute chat provided fans with an insider’s peak at what they can expect this time around.
Andy Cohen went right for the jugular when he asked Kenya about her recent comments about Kanye West. Cohen said that he concluded Kanye “aggressively” hit on Moore, who responded coyly, “I didn’t say aggressively,” meaning that she still claims West flirted with her. When Andy asked what Kenya thought about the “Mr. President” nickname Phaedra Parks gave her new baby boy, she made a snarky comment about Phaedra’s orange eye shadow and side-stepped the question entirely. Kandi on the other hand said, “He’s so cute.”
During the Sunday night episode of “WWHL,” Kandi’s fiancé, Todd Tucker, served as bartender. Andy asked Kandi about her mom’s disapproval of their engagement. “It’s tough,” Burruss stated. “A mother is always going to be over-protective of her child,” she added. “A Mother’s Love,” a new stage play by Kandi Burruss that was inspired by Mama June, Tyler Perry and Todd premieres on Nov. 22 in Atlanta. The musical includes original tunes that are loosely based on Kandi’s life. It's scheduled to play at the Rialto in Atlanta from Nov. 22-24.
Cohen asked Kenya about her own love life and if she is finally over Walter Jackson, who attended NeNe Leakes’ wedding. She stated, “I was more focused on marriage and a baby than on Walter.” Rolling Out published photos of Walter at NeNe’s wedding and he looked quite dapper in a white tuxedo jacket and black pants and a bow tie. Kenya was quick to change the subject and went on to tell Cohen that she is currently involved with an African prince.
Always one to sing her own praises, Kenya stated that she made a lot of money from “Gone with the Wind Fabulous” and continues to do so. The song debuted on iTunes at #34 on the first day and has been viewed more than 436,000 times on YouTube. She also won a $10,000 lawsuit against her ex-landlord for defamation of character.
Andy Cohen went on to ask Kenya if she learned any lessons from the last season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” She replied, “I think definitely this season, I have a softer approach. I’m learning to let down my walls so people get to know me.” This was met with shifty side glances from Kandi and a comically quizzical look.
Kenya Moore not only did not attend the wedding of NeNe and Greg Leakes, but she also never sent in her RSVP. She pointed out that “RSVP” means “reserve s’il vous plait.” Kyle Richards from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” was quick to point out Kenya’s etiquette faux pas by tweeting that “RSVP” means “respondez s’il vous plait” and actually requires an affirmative or negative confirmation.
Andy asked Kandi about her current relationship with Kim Biermann. “I haven’t talked to Kim in a very long time,” she replied. She is taking her court case against Kim to the state level and stated, “It’s not about the money, it’s about the principle.”
Overall, Andy’s interview proved one thing. Kandi Burruss is levelheaded, while Kenya is as out-there and over-the-top as ever. It should be an interesting season, indeed.
On Nov. 3, "Entertainment Weekly" wrote about the highlights of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” premiere, which included a look at NeNe and Greg’s life as newlyweds, Portia’s efforts to save her marriage, Cynthia’s business move, Kandi and Todd’s problems with Mama Joyce, Portia’s disposition, and the smack down between NeNe and Kenya.
