Kanawha Obedience Training Club is a local AKC affiliated club open to all breeds of dogs and their people. KOTC promotes the ideals of Responsible Dog Ownership. In order to educate the public and lead by example KOTC holds training classes twice a year. Graduation for the fall session of classes was held at the Dunbar Recreation Center on October 31st, 2010. Canine Good Citizen testing was held on graduation day. Dogs under six months of age were able to complete the S.T.A.R. puppy testing. More information can be found on these programs through the American Kennel Club.
Training classes can help dogs and their owners form a stronger bond, improve the safety of dogs and people, and give an outlet for healthy competition. It is such a joy to learn how to communicate effectively with your canine companion. Basic obedience class can open the door for more advanced sports such as agility, flyball, canine freestyle, Rally –O, tracking, and more. Once a good foundation is established there is a wide range of activities that can enrich the human-canine experience.
Classes will begin again in January 2011 at the Dunbar Recreation Center. KOTC can be found on facebook at!/pages/Kanawha-Obedience-Training-Club/117861714935055. Click “like” to get our updates on events and classes.
