Fort Collins-based designer Kaitlyn Thomas has been perfecting her craft for a long time, as she began sewing at the age of 4. A preview of Thomas’ Spring 2011 collection was among the four collections to walk the runway at Fashion Fest 2010 in Arvada, CO. Her line, KaiT by Kaitlyn Thomas, is designed to be crisply tailored and very wearable.
Thomas’ clothes have been inspired by her travels, but they all maintain a consistent look. When asked if there is anything different about the Spring 2011 collection, Thomas replied, “I try and make it continuous, so that each KaiT line looks like KaiT.” This collection was partially inspired by a recent trip to Egypt, and features several wrapped tops and other garments influenced by local looks.
In previous collections, Thomas’ work has been more tailored and business oriented. The Spring 2011 collection was more casual, and featured several looks that could easily be taken from day to evening. The collection also featured elegant evening looks with bold patterns that looked as if they’d been painted on the fabric.
KaiT by Kaitlyn Thomas is currently available at Biyazzi in Fort Collins, and clothes can also be ordered through her website, http://www.kaitdesign.com/. Thomas also does custom tailoring. For more information, visit www.kaitdesign.com.
