It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Kaitlin Olson was on Conan last night (January 13, 2011) and talked about why her character Sweet Dee gets picked on, hardcore fans of the show, having a natural birth, and how her husband and co-star Rob McElhenney was not the greatest birthing partner.
The cast of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia have been making rounds on the talk show circuit to promote the half-hour comedies new found syndication on Comedy Central. Charlie Day was on Conan in December 2010 and had a great interview (watch here) but I have to say, Kaitlin Olson's appearance last night blew his out of the water.
She was charming, funny, witty, and had Conan laughing the entire time. Oh, and she looked amazing in a (super) short black long sleeve dress paired with black nails.
Some highlights of Kaitlin Olson's interview with Conan include talking about why certain aspects of her appearance are picked on during episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The boys (Mac, Dennis, Charlie and Frank) always call Dee (Kaitlin Olson) a bird, and during season six they took it a step further and in a flashback scene during the Halloween episode "Who Got Dee Pregnant" they had an ostrich in the shot instead of Olson.
Turns out, her husband Rob McElhenney, who is also a writer and co-star on the show, finds out what she hates about herself and writes it into the show.
The Conan interview then moved onto the topic of how intense the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans are by screaming quotes from the show at them. During season 2 Olson's character Dee screams at a girl she is boxing "I will eat your babies b**ch!" Now, fans have actually screamed at her, "I will eat your baby b**ch" when they saw Olson on the street with her own child Axel Lee McElhenney (photos).
Olson thinks it's fantastic, so don't worry if you were one of those people that screamed it at her. She went on to say people also (jokingly) ask her if she is going to throw her baby in the dumpster, a la the episode "The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby," in which Dee and Mac find a dumpster baby.
Conan jokes about how her baby Axel might need therapy later on in life if he remembers people yelling they want to eat him, and throw him in the trash.
The always witty Kaitlin Olson countered with, "If he's not fine with it he can leave now. No one's holding him hostage, I can have another one."
The conversation went into how she had a home birth in the tub. Her husband Rob McElhenney had one job, to rub her lower back when she had a contraction. At one point he disappeared. Olson went on to say, "He went to take a shower, because I guess he needed to get freshened up or something. Are you feeling better, are you refreshed. I am sitting in a pool of my own filth, I'm exhausted."
