Chicago's biggest music festivals - Lollapalooza and Pitchfork - announced their full lineups weeks ago, but the many smaller street fests across the Windy City are just getting around to confirming their initial 2014 performance lineups. The Kaiser Chiefs, J Mascis, the Gin Blossoms and Mya lead the list of noteworthy acts scheduled to perform at these events.
The Taste of Randolph boasts one of the strongest rosters, with a lineup full of indie rock bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, Minus the Bear, Delta Spirit, Van Ghost, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and many more. The West Loop event takes place from June 13-15 and admission is just a $10 suggested donation.
J Mascis of influential rockers Dinosaur Jr. is the biggest name announced thus far for the Do Division Street Festival, which always presents a solid lineup of indie favorites. Both Spin and Rolling Stone have ranked Mascis among the top 100 guitarists of all-time, so his set will be a top draw.
R&B hitmaker Mya takes the stage at Chicago Pride Fest on June 22. Mya has scored numerous hits, including "Take Me There," "Case of the Ex," and the Grammy-winning "Lady Marmalade" collaboration with Pink, Lil Kim and Christina Aguilera.
Also on the Pride Fest bill is songwriter/performer Nikki Williams, whose excellent single "Glowing" was one of the overlooked dance-pop gems of 2013. Other confirmed acts include Kaci Battaglia, Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge, and Alex Newell, better known as Unique from "Glee."
The Gin Blossoms headline the first night of the Taste of Lincoln Avenue festival in late July. Several local acts are also on the bill for that event.
