We hadn’t been to Kabuki in quite awhile. Spoiled by their 50% off menu a number of years ago, we were very sad to see it disappear.

But now, Kabuki is making a new splash, with the initiation of a new streamlined menu with exciting sushi, entrée, dessert, and drink additions across all 11 Southern California locations, including its newest outpost in Brea, CA, which opened September 4.

Kabuki’s been around for 19-years, and they are known for their expertise in providing a contemporary and casual dining atmosphere. There, you’ll find traditional and inventive Japanese cuisine and artfully created cocktails for an experience that is authentic, enjoyable, and affordable.

New items to Kabuki’s menu include starters such as Grilled Calamari marinated in fresh Lemon Juice and served with Ginger Garlic Sauce ($7.95); a Spicy Tuna Trio with Spicy Albacore, Poké Tuna, and Spicy Tuna ($10.95); and Broiled King Crab Legs.

Sushi rolls and entrées that highlight the fresh flavors of tomatoes, corn, and miso round out the selection of new dishes, and feature the Baja Roll with Tomato Salsa on a Spicy Krab Roll ($6.95); the Mediterranean Sea Bass with Kabuki Tomato Salsa, Corn, Asparagus, and Japanese Mint ($14.95); and the Spicy Miso Ramen.

Using premium fish and authentic Japanese ingredients, the menu also features customer-favorite specialty sushi and sashimi selections such as the Pyramid Roll, made with Tuna, Avocado, Krab, and Arare, with Yuzu Tartare Sauce, served in the shape of a triangle ($9.95), and Kabuki's most popular premium roll, the Lotus on Fire Roll with Spicy Tuna, Lotus Root, and fresh sliced Jalapeño on top of a California Roll ($9.95).

New Japanese-inspired desserts include the Green Tea Cheesecake with fresh Berries and Raspberry Drizzle ($5.95); and the Chocolate Pyramid Anglaise with Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake, Crème Anglaise, and soft White Chocolate ($6.95).

We sampled many of their new menu items while dining at their location in the Howard Hughes Complex, and they are not only pleasing to the eye, but a challenge to the palate as well.

Manager Jin Kim gave us an arsenal of offerings and they fell into two camps: somewhat spicy and rather mild. For those of you who shy away from hot stuff, head for the Mediterreanean Sea Bass, the Broiled King Crab Legs, and Grilled Calamari. Ambitious diners will faun over the Spicy Tuna Trio, which I pretty much avoided, as I’m adverse to hot and spicy food. But the presentation tempted me, I must say, and those who are adventurous will love it.

A must is the Banana Tempura for dessert, sending us into a sweetsugar tizzy. I’m glad I didn’t start with this otherwise I might have forfeited the rest of the meal. It’s that good!
