On Friday, August 23, Billboard reported that K. Michelle, the popular VH1 reality show star of "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, (LHHA)," landed the number 2 position on the Billboard 200 with the release of her debut Atlantic Records studio album, "Rebellious Soul."
The album, with its blended sound of Hip Hop mixed with a lot of soul has moved over seventy thousand copies sold since its release on August 13, and has grasped the attention of already existing LHHA fans, radio stations and added some new fans with the release of her first single, "V.S.O.P."
Since the separation from her former label, RCA in 2011 due to creative differences, K. Michelle has signed with Atlantic and has proven and showcased her writing and singing abilities.
According to Billboard, the female R&B singer has made Billboard history with the release of her debut album as the highest debut on the Billboard 200 for a female R&B singer's first album since March 2001, when Marsha Ambrosius' Late Nights & Early Mornings also entered at No. 2.
K. Michelle recently sat down for an interview with Essence.com where she spoke about her future in reality television, how she is currently working on changing her "bad girl" image, and her how she feels about the success of her album, "Rebellious Soul."
"[The album] is very musical, but the lyrics are wild," she explained to Essence. "I feel like I still have so much in me to sing. If I could I’d be in the studio coming up with a song every day."
K. Michelle is very much aware of the negative backlash she has received from her role on the VH1 reality show LHHA but she knows that she has talent and is convinced that everyone else will see she has talent and will allow her music to overshadow the negativity she portrayed on television.
"I think [my album] is going to shock people because I'm really great at making music," she revealed. "I was reading my Twitter mentions and some guy tweeted a comment like ‘I don't like her but her music is amazing.’ I’ll take that."
