While former Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta cast mates of soul singer K. Michelle are trying to hang on to their fame, by baring all in a "bedroom production," K. Michelle has been working on her own production, set to hit the stage in New York City, and it's all about the music. On Wednesday August 6, This is RnB shared the trailer for K. Michelle's upcoming musical, "Rebellious Soul," set to air on VH1, August 19.
The thirty second clip, gives a first look at various scenes from the musical, directed by actor Idris Elba, that chronicles the life challenges and struggles of the Atlanta based singer through the music off of the album, "Rebellious Soul." The title track "My Life," sets the tone for the play.
Centric TV reported on the musical early on when the feisty vixen sat down with Chicago's WGCI "Morning Riot" show in the beginning of 2014 to discuss her plans for the musical and linking up with Idris Elba.
"My album, Rebellious Soul, we turned it into a musical ... it's on VH1 and Idris Elba is the director. [...] I took every song on Rebellious Soul and turned it into a conversation and flipped it ... kind of like a female 'Trapped in the Closet' [by R. Kelly]. I turned the whole album around, Idris heard it. Loved it. And we decided to team up on it. VH1 will air it. I didn't want to make it this celebrity thing. Me and him decided we really wanted it to be focused on the story and fun and laugh and cry. People have been talking to me about a lot of acting roles, but this will be my first time being on the screen."
Technically, this won't be the first time viewers will see K. Michelle on the screen. Fans of the Love & Hip Hop franchise were introduced to the petite sized power vocalist on LHHA, as one who loves her friends, but is not afraid to speak her mind about her own personal feelings, not afraid to throw flowers, and definitely not afraid to throw drinks either. After multiple seasons with the Atlanta cast, K. Michelle parted ways and left for the big city where she joined the NY cast with minimum appearances on the show and a few reoccurring guest appearances on the Atlanta show.
It seems as if the songstress has not strayed too far from reality television or the VH1 network. In addition to the musical, "Rebellious Soul" set to air as a television special on Vh1 on August 19, K, as she is more casually referred, has also sealed the deal for a her very own reality show with the network.
The long awaited spin-off reality show starring K. Michelle follows her "as she learns to balance life, relationships, and bona fide superstardom with the help of a dynamic group of friends," as explained by WetPaint. The airing of the musical could be just what fans need to keep hanging in there until the premier of the reality show this Fall.
The musical special premieres on Tuesday Aug. 19 at 10 p.m. EST on VH1. "My Life," the reality show airs Nov. 3 on VH1
