Oklahoma City All-Star forward Kevin Durant stood at the free throw line twoard the end of Sunday night's win over Golden State and just soaked in what the crowd was chanting.
"M-V-P....M-V-P," they were yelling.
"Yeah I heard em all right, I wanted to stand there longer so I could hear it more," Durant said after Monday's practice.
The Oklahoma City forward was wrapping up a game where he'd scored 45 points, the most this season and 3rd most in his career.
"It was cool for the fans to think of me like that," Durant said. "Top hear that MVP chant was pretty special."
Durant is an All-Star for the first time and will also be playing in the H-O-R-S-E competition, an event he won last year.
"Yeah so I'm out to defend my title now, I don't even know who else is playing but I say bring em on."
And he'll be ready with a little something special.
"I've been working on throwing it behind my head from the 3-point line and I've made a couple, so maybe I'll try that."
No behind the head shots but Durant dropped them in from all over the floor. He was 16-for-21 Sunday night and 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Despite those monster numbers KD says he could have done better.
"I missed a couple where I maybe should have left my hand up a little longer and maybe I would have made them, I'm greedy I want to make em all."
"Him making the All-Star team is great for your team but the great thing about KD is that he's all about the team," said his coach Scott Brooks.
"It's not common for a guy so young to understand that it's really about the team."
Durant has always been quick to be humble about his own efforts and to praise his teammates, he did that again Sunday night.
"My teammates did a great job of finding me and I just wanted to do whatever it took to win the game, I didn't make all my shots but I think I made enough to help us get the win."
The Thunder will be back on the practice floor for shoot-around Tuesday morning and will then host the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday night at 7 inside the Ford Center.
