On October 29 the verdict came in for a Portsmouth, Virginia K-9 officer and his wife – it was “Not guilty.” Officer Brian Davis and his wife, Jennifer, had been charged with animal cruelty. The judge in the Suffolk General District Court found both Brian Davis and Jennifer Davis not guilty of all charges.
Brian and Jennifer Davis were indicted with misdemeanor charges of cruelty to an animal and not providing veterinarian assistance to a retired police horse in July.
At the hearing, they admitted they had not provided any veterinary care for Amy. They owned the police horse Amy for almost four years.
Another couple had adopted Amy and reported her in bad health.
The adopting couple, David and Debra Kelly, confirmed that they took Amy in as their own because they wanted to save her life. They also said that Amy appeared seriously emaciated and they did everything possible to help her. They sought veterinary care for her and were told “she was suffering from long-term starvation.”
It was only two weeks after their adoption of Amy that the Kellys had to euthanize her.
