Italian soccer club team Juventus FC eliminated French club team Olympique Lyonnais from the UEFA Europa League on Thursday afternoon. Juventus started today’s game, the second leg, at home and with a goal advantage, as Juve had won the first leg in France 1-0.
In the end, as reported by ESPN Deportes, the game ended in a score of 2-1 in favor of the Italian team. The final aggregate score was 3-1, and the victory gave Juve a pass to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League.
As soon as the game started at the Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy, Juventus managed to score in the first five minutes. In minute four, veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo scored.
The French club team Lyon followed with a goal in the 18th minute of the match. The goal was made by center striker Jimmy Briand.
The game in Turin went into the half with a 1-1 score; however, Juventus FC had the aggregate by a goal, 2-1, at that point. Lyon would only need one more goal for a tie.
During the second half, Juventus seemed to be stronger than Olympique Lyonnais. In the 68th minute, another goal was sunk by the Italian champions via midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
The goal by midfielder Marchisio had a bit of luck as the shot, from outside the top of the box, was deflected by a Lyon defender, sending the Lyon goalkeeper, Anthony Lopes, diving the wrong way.
The Italian soccer club team known as “Old Lady,” or Vecchia Signora, is currently the Champion of the Italian league. Juventus is also on its way to winning the Italian domestic league three times consecutively.
Now, Italian giants Juventus FC will have to wait for the draw for the semifinals scheduled for Friday. Juve is the only Italian club team left in the UEFA Europa League.
