Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience album was the best selling album of 2013 with 2.43 million albums sold according to Billboard. Timberlake took a hiatus from music and his return to music was some of the biggest news of 2013. It helped his album propel to the No. 1 spot with almost a million units sold in the first week.

The 20/20 Experience was only the second album to sell under three million since SoundScan started keeping track in 1991. Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III was the only other album to sell under three million. And Timberlake's album is the only album to sell over two million units this year.

Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 trailed Timberlake for the second most albums sold in 2013 with 1.73 million. His album came near the end of the year and is still moving strong. Eminem's last album, Recovery, sold the most albums in 2010 with 3.41 million.

Drake's Nothing Was the Same was the seventh best selling album in 2013 with 1.34 million. Beyonce's self titled album was the eighth best selling album with 1.3 million. She was the highest selling woman in 2013. Katy Perry was the second most selling woman with just under a million albums sold.

Sales fell by eight percent compared to 2012. Physical CD sales declined by 14 percent and digital sales also declined by one percent. Vinyl records saw an increase in sales. In 2013, more vinyl records were sold than in any other year.
