We already know that “Suit & Tie” Timberlake has transitioned from boy band phenomenon to solo sensation. His memorable guest appearances on “SNL” have been the water cooler conversation for some time. Now JT can consider himself a member of the five timers club.
The “exclusive” club was brought to us in 1990 when Tom Hanks hosted SNL for his fifth time. Other celebrity hosts, Danny DeVito, Alec Baldwin, John Goodman and even Drew Barrymore are part of this club. Hanks closes his opening monologue by holding up a card that suggested he was a Five Timers Club Member. Timberlake held up his card and gave us a behind the scenes view of the members club.
Paul Simon, in his black smokers jacket with the number 5 on it, greets Timberlake with a guitar in his hand and says, “welcome to the club”. Timberlake goes on to say, “Mr. Simon, the honor is mine.” Simon replies with, “I think it is.” Although he’s hosted 3 shows, Simon was considered member because of the many appearances as a music guest. The sketch included Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Candice Bergen and SNL alumni Chevy Chase, Dan Ayckroyd (the bartender) and Martin Short (the waiter).
Timberlake's song, "Suit & Tie" has been on Kanye West's mind since late February. Kanye made a statement to a crowd during his concert in London, “And I got love for Hov”, meaning Jay-Z. He goes on to say, “...but I ain’t f**ing with that ‘Suit & Tie.”
Timberlake may have shot a jab back at Ye’ during his SNL performance by changing a part of the lyrics to “Suit & Tie” from “....so sick/got a hit and picked up a habit" to "My hit's so sick got rappers acting dramatic."
