The rumors that Justin Timberlake and Elton John are in the running to take over for Simon Cowell on American Idol have been shot down. According to Deadline Hollywood, there's no truth in them whatsoever.
A Justin insider says the report is "just silly" because Timberlake has no time for a gig like this.
It's reported that Justin has been offered the lead role in the upcoming movie I'm Mortal, alongside Amanda Seyfried. The movie is set to hit theaters in 2012.
As for Elton, his people say that he's "got commitments" and has "no plans to that (Idol)".
Former producer Nigel Lythgoe is said to be coming back to Idol for it's 10th season after departing in 2008. You can currently see him as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, which he also produces.
SYTYCD airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. on Fox 26 in Houston.
