Justin Edwards stopped in the first round at UFC Fight Night 27

Justin Edwards had the tough task of welcoming highly touted prospect Brandon Thatch to the UFC on Wednesday night.

The Mansfield, Ohio native took on Thatch on the preliminary card at UFC Fight Night 27 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis. The welterweight fight aired live on FOX Sports 2.

Thatch entered the UFC on an eight-fight win streak with all eight wins coming in the first round. Five of the eight wins came in less than a minute.

Edwards opened the first round quickly pushing forward trying bully “Rukus” around the cage but Thatch was prepared. The Denver native opened up and started landing at will.

After landing numerous head kicks and punches, Thatch dropped "Fast Eddy" and jumped on top and started raining down punches. Ref Rob Hinds and seen enough and stopped the fight at 1:23 of the first round.

With the win, Thatch improves his record to 10-1 and earns his first UFC win.

With the loss, Edwards drops to 9-2 and falls to 2-3 in the UFC.
