Ever wonder what goes into making a Hollywood star? For starters, heaps of talent, good looks, unwavering confidence, focus, and lots of determination. Justin Chon is fortunate to possess all of these tangibles and – a killer smile.
Young, charismatic and enjoying the success of the “Twilight” franchise which has grossed almost 2 billion dollars worldwide, Justin Chon manages to remain humble and approachable. Today, fresh from his boxing session at the gym, the thirty year old heartthrob has come to Studio City to enjoy a signature pork-belly burger at his favorite spot, “Umami Burger”. As we inhaled cheese filled tater-tots, Justin took a moment in-between bites to discuss his love-life.
Most guys wish they had star-status to get girls. Does being a celebrity make dating easier?
I think it makes it much harder. At first girls are okay with dating someone in the industry. But over a period of time, the long hours, time away from home, and fanfare gets to them. It takes a special woman to date someone in the biz and they’re hard to find!
What kind of woman makes Justin Chon’s heart skip a beat?
For me, it doesn’t matter if they’re blond, brunette, red-head, tall, short, athletic or slender. [Laughs] I guess you can say I like all types of women. But a woman who is down to earth, scores major points with me! It’s a turn-on.
When you’re in a relationship, what kind of boyfriend are you?
I’d say, loyal and responsible. I’m all about making my girl feel like she’s the only woman in the world. Whether it’s telling her how special she is or showing her with gifts and romantic dates, I want to make her happy.
What was the most romantic thing you’ve ever done on a date?
When it comes to romance I believe in keeping it simple. With my last girlfriend we were on our way to our favorite restaurant when I pretended that the car was crappin’ out. I asked her to get out and check if smoke was coming from the exhaust. When she did, I popped the trunk and inside were six dozen roses and a stuffed bear. [Laughs] It was simple but very effective.
Not every date can be a winner. What was your worst date experience?
I had a date with a girl I called “the parrot”. All she did was repeat everything I said. She never had an original thought of her own. Everything I liked, she liked. Everything I hated, she hated. It was annoying!
If a woman wanted to approach you, what should she know?
Just be yourself. As an actor you pretend all day, that’s what the job calls for. So, when it comes to my personal life, a woman who keeps it real is a breath of fresh air.
Is marriage and kids in Justin Chon’s future?
Sure, I would like to settle down one day. But that day is in the very distant future. So far into the future, you’d need a time machine to get to it. [Laughs].
