Justin Bieber, 19, turned himself in to Toronto police on Wednesday following a criminal charge of assault which was related to a Dec. 29 incident. The pop star who has been engulfed in negative headlines in the recent past went to the 52 Division police station in Toronto, Canada at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. According to a Yahoo! News report on Wednesday, Bieber was arrested and charged with assault. Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun and Bieber’s father Jeremy Bieber were with him at the time he turned himself in.

The Bieber episode from last month involves an alleged physical attack on a limousine driver. The singing sensation was released from the police station with a court date which has not been given to the media.

Bieber’s attorney released a statement saying that the Toronto Police Service requested that Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault relating to an incident on Dec. 29, 2013. He also stated that it is anticipated that the matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States. He concluded that it is their belief that Bieber is innocent.
