Justin Bieber takes Atlanta by storm, Jan Smith praises her star student

On Jan. 23, Justin Bieber returned to Atlanta and took the city by storm. He performed at Phillips Arena on Wednesday night, much to the delight of local tweens, teens and their parents. In addition, his vocal coach and mentor, Jan Smith spoke to FOX 5 about her famous student and praised him for his tremendous success, which all began in the ATL.

Wednesday night’s sold-out crowd definitely had Bieber fever. Dad Anthony Mooney drove four hours to surprise his young daughter. “This has been my daughter’s dream. She loves Justin Bieber,” he said after the Atlanta concert. Megan Miracle from Johns Creek exclaimed, “He’s just amazing and he’s so humble in everything he does and he’s beautiful, of course!”

Justin Bieber’s meteoric rise to fame and fortune began in Atlanta. Producer Scooter Braun stumbled on his YouTube videos and flew Bieber to Atlanta to meet with his So Def recording colleagues. From there, Justin and Scooter met with Atlanta-based Usher. After a second meeting, Usher was impressed with Bieber because he had a great voice and was a self-taught musician who played the drums, guitar, piano and trumpet.

Justin Bieber officially signed with Island Records, a division of Def Jam Music Group, in 2008. Shortly thereafter, Bieber moved to Atlanta, home of Usher and Braun, to base his career. From there, the sky was the limit. Justin Bieber is hotter than a firecracker right now and he credits Usher for his success. Everyone in America now knows about the talented teen who got his start in Atlanta.

On Jan. 23, Bieber’s vocal coach and mentor spoke to FOX 5 about her star student. “Justin has matured a lot. He’s taken some hits. He’s had to learn how to deal with the media and the tremendous pressures that have surrounded his career and his explosion of success.” She also added that she’s glad that no one takes pictures of her every mistake like the media does with Justin.

In 2011, Justin Bieber honored Jan Smith at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards. Smith is the guiding force behind some of the music industry’s most recognizable voices, including Justin Bieber, Usher, Rob Thomas, India Arie, Keri Hilson and many more. As a vocal coach and vocal producer, Smith has lent her expertise to over 4,000 artists in every genre for over 20 years and has repeatedly been recognized by her students and clients for passionately bringing out the best in them. She operates Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta and became the envy of teen girls worldwide when she appeared in Bieber’s documentary, “Never Say Never.”
