Justin Bieber fans in Chicago have mixed views on recent allegations of marijuana use.
In Boystown, a heavily concentrated gay community on Chicago's north side, Justin has become a hot topic at popular night clubs.
Mario Allanza, while enjoying his usual weekend trip to Hydrate in Boystown sat in chat with friends and his favorite t-shirt proudly proclaiming "Bieber Fever"
Allanza, like many others in the hotspot, believes that Bieber is the target of not just paparazzi but a political agenda as well.
“They aren’t after this Adonis just for using pot. First of all, California has its own laws when it comes to weed. It’s legal with a medicinal marijuana card. Politicians are always seeking attention. What better way to grab it than by exposing a sexy 18 year old blonde?”
TMZ reports: Bieber was photographed this week at a hotel-room party in Newport Beach holding “what appears to be a marijuana cigarette”
The photos, taken in the presence of security and obtained by TMZ over the weekend, show the Bieber laughing and chatting with a lit blunt between his fingers.
While the paparazzi are always looking for a story, many in the political arena believe that the current struggle to legalize marijuana for medicinal use has inflated Bieber’s “scandal”.
North-side community activist John Barrens works closely with groups such as NORML (The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), a pro-pot advocacy organization.
“It is very clear to me that this so called ‘war on drugs’ is now becoming a war on celebrities like Justin. What people fail to realize is that we just don’t know if he holds a legal medicinal marijuana card in California or not.” said Barrens
“So many states have placed ballot initiaves or even have seen recent success in legalizing. This seems to me that the media frenzy that surrounds Justin is just a play by thirsty right-wing politicians to expose what they consider drug use by damaging a young man’s career.”
Justin Bieber allegedly smoking weed and drinking alcohol is currently being looked into by police. As reported by The Inquisitr, “all the internet gossip sites are spreading photos that show Justin Bieber partying in Newport Beach. These photos purportedly show Justin Bieber holding a “suspicious” cigarette that many claim contains marijuana. Another photo shows Justin Bieber drinking something that likely contains alcohol, and Bieber is still only 18 years old.”
“As organizations like NORML fight for the freedom to use nature’s miracle cure, we will only see more of thirsty to be elected politicians and law-enforcement chiefs expose celebrities like Bieber to the media. What they fail to report, is that currently in the state of California, marijuana use is legal with a prescription. This is only one more way to scare the public into thinking that a teen idol will cause their children to use what they deem a gateway drug.” added Barrens
NORML is also speaking out on the ties between the Bieber scandal and politics.
“Calling for an end to marijuana prohibition is no longer a political liability; it is a political opportunity," said NORML Deputy Director Paul Armentano.
"Never in modern history has there been greater public support for ending the nation’s nearly century-long experiment with cannabis prohibition and replacing it with a system of legalization and regulation. Politicians who are seeking to amend this failed policy are aligning themselves with the majority. Those who do not are siding with an ever decreasing minority of their constituents."
