Today TMZ reported that Justin Bieber has given “Saturday Night Live” writers free reign when writing sketches for the pop star's appearance. “Justin himself has told producers to push him as far as they want,” sources at TMZ said. He will host the show on Feb. 9.

The 18 year-old made headlines earlier this month when TMZ released photos of the young man at a party holding what appears to be a joint. The photo was captured just a day after the death of paparazzo Chris Guerra, who was struck and killed by an SUV while shooting photos Bieber's Ferrari. According to Guerra's friends, the photographer said he had seen Bieber smoking pot earlier in the day and was trying to catch him in the act.

Bieber also appeared in headlines in December when an obsessive New Mexico intimate revealed his plot to send men to castrate and murder the young singer.

TMZ called Bieber's decision a “smart move.” Other celebrities, like Paris Hilton and Alec Baldwin, who came on the show in the wake of potentially damaging press experienced success when they made the same decision.

Bieber will be performing in the sketches as well as hosting the show.
