Justin Bieber fans have been known to act wild and outlandish when it comes to supporting their idol. However, some fans may have taken methods to the extreme with messages they sent Bieber on Twitter asking him to stop smoking marijuana. Zap 2 It reported that on Monday, Jan. 7 that Bieber fans were asked to slit their wrists to protest the music icon's choice to use marijuana as a recreational drug.
The fans were less than pleased when pictures surfaced online of Justin Bieber smoking marijuana while in California.
To show their displeasure bieber fans were asked jokingly on Twitter to send in pictures cutting themselves in protest of Justin Bieber using marijuana by 4chan.
The initial posts were made as an incredibly harmful, disgusting prank, by members of the infamous 4chan message board. A user posted a message stating, "Let's start a cut yourself for bieber campaign. Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves."
Although the Twitter post was initially sent as a joke, Bieber fans took it literally and began to tweet pictures of themselves with slashed wrists and bloody blades. The fans even created the #CutForBieber hashtag.
The #CutForBieber campaign began when a group of people posted photos of slashed wrists and bloody blades with the hashtag #CutForBieber, urging fans to self-harm in "protest" of Bieber's alleged drug use.
The idea that fans would actually cut themselves this way is appalling. Entertainers sometime forget or don't realize they are being idolized by these young and in most cases immature teens.
The #CutForBieber hashtag had varying results. Some fans followed suit, essentially hoping to pressure Bieber into giving up drugs for the sake of his fans. Others mocked it, posting photos of themselves cutting paper with scissors tagged with #cutforbieber. The vast majority of tweets about the hashtag were horrified onlookers, appalled by the drastic and terrible actions of the fans.
Miley Cyrus even chimed in on how inappropriate and disrespectful cutting themselves is considered.
Miley Cyrus weighed in, tweeting, "#cut4bieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful."
Justin Bieber has yet to comment about the #CutForBieber trend. One can only hope he'll say something positive that will help alleviate this outlandish behavior.
