LOS ANGELES -- It was Justin Bieber's debut performance at the VMA (Video Music Awards) tonight in Los Angeles and the fans both there and at home were not disappointed.

Kim Kardashian introduced the teen idol and she made a jibe at their supposed romance.

Justin Bieber got Chelsea Handler, VMA host, outside of the Nokia Theatre by showing a sign reading "Chelsea Loves Bieber."

So what were the songs he sang? No surprise to any of his 5 million followers (and that's just on Twitter), the songs he performed were "U Smile," "Baby" and "Somebody to Love."

Fans, also known as Beliebers, were crowding into the Staples Center which is located across the street, in order to spot their hero, Justin Bieber.

"MTV, make some noise," said Bieber right before his hit "Somebody to Love."

With that, confetti floated to the ground. At the end of the singing, Justin Bieber freely gave hugs to his dancers and his band.

In all, it was a successful first MTV performance for Justin Bieber.

In San Francisco, Justin Bieber fans agreed that the performance on MTV was well worth the wait.

San Francisco Justin Bieber fan who goes by the name of @fishcanswim27 on Twitter, says "He was really good. I loved his dancing. I thought the kids that were dancing were really cute too. You didn't expect to see them. I'm glad he got to perform this year. He was there last year and presented but didn't get to sing. It was kind of cute when he got lost on his way to the stage and Lady Gaga had to show him which way to go."

You have to wonder what he'd sound like without the back-up shriekers in the audience. Is that considered respectful of talent?
