Justin Bieber almost takes down mentor Usher on album chart

Usher has apparently done such a good job mentoring Justin Bieber that the "Baby" singer is nearly passing him on the charts. According to the newest numbers (which will be made official via the Billboard 200 Thursday), Justin's "My World 2.0" sold over 290,000 copes in week two -- an increase of his first-week sales that puts his album at Certified Gold status.

Usher, meanwhile, debuted at #1 with "Raymond v. Raymond." It sold 330,000 copies, which isn't anywhere near the strongest debut of his career. On the other hand, it is still an impressive number for an artist who has been around for over a decade.

Usher and Bieber most recently appeared together on "American Idol" -- the "Yeah!" singer was a mentor to the top ten whereas Justin was on hand to tape a performance for a future episode.

Are you surprised that Justin Bieber is continuing to do so well? Let me know your thoughts with a comment and check back soon for more news. To view recent photos of Justin, all you have to do is follow this link.
