Iran: Back in September, a mother bear and her cubs were brutally killed by some heartless human monsters.
The mother bear was killed and then her helpless babies repeated stabbed in the belly. Still alive with their internal organs exposed, they desperately sought help from their mother, crawling to her dead body and screaming in terror and agony. (Source.)
It's impossible to comprehend how any human being can do this to a helpless creature, but these men went so far as to record the entire event, taking pleasure from the suffering of these innocent and helpless babies. One of the "hunters" even holds up the head of the slain mother by the ear, as the tiny cub cries in desperation and pain, trying in vain to find help and comfort from his dead mother.
In Iran, It's reported that animal cruelty isn't taken very seriously and this kind of heinous act isn't uncommon. Advocates are fighting every day to change that mindset and change the laws as they apply to animals there.
The pictures provided here are grainy, taken as screen shots from the home video taken by the "hunters" as they took pleasure in their kills. But one thing is clear. The babies are desperate for the comfort of their mother, who was the only security they'd ever known.
Be warned that the video that accompanies the original report of this horror is sickeningly graphic. Hearing those babies scream in pain and terror will rip at the heart of even the most seasoned advocate. Their cries of pain, helplessness and desperation are simply heartbreaking when viewing the video.
A petition was begun and is still active, seeking to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The intent is to try to show officials in Iran that advocates will not stand by and let these horrors continue without justice being served. Please consider adding your voice to this petition. These innocent babies never had a chance to live, and their lives ended in the most brutal and painful of ways. Their mother tried to save them, but these "hunters" knew that killing her would give them free access to those tiny babies, so they could carry out their "entertainment" at their leisure.
A Facebook page has also been created entitled "Mama Bear & Babies Tortured in Iran – world embassies with contact list & petition". Given there is a list of contacts where letters can be sent, expressing outrage at this nightmare for these innocent lives as well as demanding that justice be served for them, and laws changed for animals in that country.
Animals around the world are at high risk it seems, and the stories of the neglect, abuse and cruelty seem to grow more egregious every day. We as advocates must keep raising our voices whenever we can and never give up the fight to try to seek justice for these horrendous acts of cruelty against the innocent creatures with whom we share this earth.
Rest in peace sweet mama and babies. We're sorry your lives ended so horribly and you never had a chance to know what it was like to grow and live free. We will carry on and be your voice to hopefully end this nightmare for others like you.
