'Justice League' hero, villain outlines revealed: Report

Warner Bros. is hoping a "Justice League" movie could reach the box office heights of "The Avengers," but details are sketchy.

A report attributed to a DC Entertainment insider that emerged on Wednesday points to some information on the characters involved in the film. Included is the all-important information about who will appear in the film, in terms of villains and heroes.

The character outlines include some backstory on each character, some of whom have not been seen before in the Warner Bros. DC Comics universe.

Superman: essentially the same character as in the upcoming "Man of Steel" film, with Zack Snyder is providing input regarding character development.

Batman: In the comics, Batman has always been reluctant to participate in League matters. As in the comics, Batman considers his role as a strategist. He also feels he fits poorly in the group as they are all considerably more powerful than him.

Green Lantern: Will use Ryan Reynold's character from the "Green Lantern" movie, but his character will be re-written to have a more serious bent.

Wonder Woman: In the movie, as in some of the comic book incarnations of "Justice League" (the series has been rebooted more than once), Wonder Woman has only been in "man's world" for a few short months. The "Wonder Woman" script currently being developed by Michael Goldenberg will reportedly be set before the "Justice League" movie.

The Flash: In civilian eyes, the Scarlet Speedster is the most popular hero. It's unclear, as yet, just how fast he will be able to run in the movie.

Aquaman: Has had various incarnations in the comics, but is the King of the undersea realm of Atlantis. In general he has impressive strength to to his body structure, which can withstand incredible underwater pressure, the ability to breathe underwater, and telepathic command of undersea creatures. He reportedly has a key role in the film, but his powers may vary from the comics.

Martian Manhunter: In the comics, Jonn Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter, is a Martian, from a now-dead race. His powers are very similar to Superman's but he has a vulnerability to fire, which has been at times attributed to an actual physical weakness and at other times said to be psychological in nature. In the film, he will be an alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years.

An impressive detective, in the film the Martian Manhunter has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign of terror.

Darkseid: you can consider him analogous to Marvel Comics' Thanos, who is apparently the villain in "Avengers 2." Immensely powerful, he wields the near-omnipotent Omega Force.

According to the report, the film will include a heavy military presence, not unlike S.H.I.E.L.D., but one which in future rewrites could include characters featured in "Man of Steel" or even Amanda Waller, neither of which are reportedly included in the first draft of "Justice League."

Alfred Pennyworth will make a minor appearance, and Lois Lane will be featured in a cameo.

While no director has been signed for the film as of yet ("Justice League" is in good company in that way, as "Star Wars: Episode VII" has no director either), Will Beall ("Gangster Squad" is reportedly scripting it.
