Justice for Baby Brianna

Sign this petition and give Baby Brianna the justice she deserves!

Child abuse is a growing epidemic in the United States. It's hard to rationalize, but statistics show 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be molested by the age of 18. Currently there are 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse, every 10 seconds a child is abused in the United States and today, 5 children will die from abuse or neglect.

Baby Brianna Mariah Lopez died on July 19, 2002 at the hands of her mother Stephanie Lopez, her father Andy Walters, and her uncle Steven Lopez due to severe child abuse.

"Stephanie Lopez was sentenced to 27 years in prison after being convicted by a jury of negligently permitting child abuse resulting in death or great bodily harm. Autopsy findings revealed five month old Brianna had suffered "numerous human bite marks throughout her entire body, scraping and bruising injuries, extensive injuries to her head and fatal injuries to her brain, bleeding within membranes around the brain as well as the nerves around her eyes, indicating she had been violently shaken. Brianna's skull had 5-7 day old fractures in two places, on two different bones.

"Both old and new blood were present, indicating a previous injury to the brain. Brianna had two rib fractures that were weeks old upon her death. The baby also had bucket handle fractures on both thigh bones and a fracture on her left arm. Baby Brianna's anus and vagina were also injured."

"Currently, Brianna is buried in a pauper's grave as no family members came forward to claim her body. She is buried underneath a cage to keep mourners away. There is a possibility Stephanie Lopez will be eligible for parole in 2016. "

It is our moral duty to give Baby Brianna justice and let it be known that her life is more valuable than any amount of punishment of jail time with the option of early parole. We need to let people who abuse and kill children know that they are responsible for their actions. That they are and will be held accountable, and that we as a society refuse to remain silent. That our voice gives abused children a voice. Please take a few seconds out of your day and sign this petition as an effort to keep Stephanie Lopez behind bars were she belongs. Deny her the right of freedom and life, the same rights that she took from Baby Brianna.

"We, the people undersigned, call on the Parole Board of New Mexico to revoke eligibility of parole for Stephanie Lopez, instead requiring she serve all time sentenced for her part in the death of her child, Brianna Mariah Lopez."

There are many child abuse awareness and prevention organizations; Dreamcatchers for Abused Children, Child Help and RAINN throughout the United States making a difference by educating the public, creating public awareness and providing survivors and their families the resources they need to reach a full recovery. These same organization are mostly funded by individual donors so be sure to show them your support.
