Justice for Andra Grace: Roger Owens court date set for July 15

Since that fateful day on November 30, 2013, animal advocates have been seeking justice for Andra Grace, a beautiful dog whose previous owner is a monster.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Greenville County Courthouse, 305 E. North Street, Greenville, SC, Mr. Owens will appear before the Honorable Judge Verdin for a plea hearing in Courtroom 8.

Those who have supported Andra Grace from the beginning ask that anyone who is local to the area and able, please attend this hearing. Although space inside the courtroom may be limited, your presence outside will be just as effective.

A massive show of support could make the difference in whether Owens gets the maximum of 5 years in prison for his treatment of Andra Grace.

For those of you unfamiliar to the case, the articles following this article detail it from the beginning.

From the two ladies who turned around that fateful day to save Andra Grace, to Cynthia Saracino who happened to be in the vet's office when Greenville Animal Control arrived with her battered body to SNARR stepping up with a $1,000 reward for the arrest of the man responsible, fate made sure Andra Grace lived.

Facebook: Justice for Andra Grace stated the following in a July 13 post

"Remember the veterinarians and staff who spend countless hours changing bandages, cleaning wounds and showing her love? How about Jen, who drove from NY to SC and back to NY just to transport this precious cargo to her foster mom? And Marcy, her foster, who gave her a loving, stable environment to heal, socialize and trust? And then there's Courtney; fighting tirelessly behind the scenes to prosecute the evil monster responsible, coordinating care, transport and, the most difficult, raise funds to pay for Andra's treatment. We cannot forget Sheriff Tina Adams and Prosecutor Julie Anders for their diligence in gathering the evidence necessary to push for the maximum penalty and never allowing this to be 'just another case'. And this list would not be complete without mentioning all of you."

Eventually SNARR was able to find Andra Grace a loving, forever home. But not before those in the Greenville area learned the lesson that to punish animal abusers, we have to beg those in the position to press charges to do their job.

Owens was originally 'ticketed' for his abuse. An enraged community joined together, and through research and persistence, saw Owens was charged with malicious animal cruelty. He had a long track record of abuse, and almost got away with this most recent crime.

If you remember nothing else about Owens, remember this:

"Upon closer examination of Andra's feet, it has been discovered that this case goes a lot further than her being dragged. Her toe nails were ripped out deliberately and they are not missing due to the dragging incident."

This Examiner article had a record breaking 28,000 Facebook likes, as Owens true nature was put before the public.

The question presented isn't only whether Owens should get a light sentence, but why this man hasn't been locked away for life. He's truly a danger to any community he calls home.

Please adjust your schedule, and be at the courthouse on Tuesday if at all possible. This man needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. This may only happen with a show of support Tuesday for Andra Grace.
