Thursday, August 8th a demonstration is planned outside the Scott County Courthouse to demand justice for Millie, a golden retriever beaten to death by her owner.
July 12, Millie, an elderly golden retriever, had an accident on the floor in her home in Savage, MN. The accident caused her owner, Rudolph William Poppe to decide to end her life. Instead of taking the dog to the vet to be euthanized, Poppe took Millie out to the driveway and began beating her head with a sledgehammer. By the time the police arrived, Poppe had fastened a plastic bag over her head with a battery clip and struck her around fifteen times. When the police removed the plastic bag from Millie’s head, she was still breathing and tried to stand up twice. Despite efforts to save her, she had to be euthanized shortly after.
Poppe, who resisted arrest, will be attending his omnibus trial at the Scott County Courthouse this Thursday at 8 am. He is facing charges for two counts of felony animal cruelty, one count of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct. A demonstration is planned for outside the courthouse to demand justice for the slaughtered Millie and to send a message that acts of cruelty like this should not be tolerated.
Community members who would like to participate in the demonstration can purchase t-shirts at the Justice 4 Millie Facebook page and sign a petition asking that Poppe be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
