If you are thinking that you can just drink your way to great health then you are severely mistaken. In fact if you even think that your tap water is safe to drink because we have these water treatment plants and the water does not stink or taste funny. Then again you are severely mistaken. Every year most cities publish what is called a water quality report and sends that report to all its customers. You know that extra piece of paper you sometimes get in your water bill that you just throw away instead of reading. It's that little piece of paper that can enlighten you and help make your life healthier. On it is listed all the impurities that are found in your water and on that list always is estrogen. That’s right, female hormones and if you are a male you have cause for concern. In fact female hormones are found in the water and the water treatment plants can not filter it out, in fact the water treatment plants cannot filter out any of the prescription drugs that are found in the water which consequently is around 50 different types.
The only way to get around consuming a glass full of hormones and other drugs is to get you a good water filter and use only filtered water from now on. And if you think, “Well I am safe because I drink bottled water”, you are very wrong. In fact water bottling companies have even less restrictions on them and it's a known fact that many of the water bottling companies use tap water as their source. Then they put the water into plastic bottles that we know gives off more chemicals into the water, so what are you really drinking? Again the best source of water is from your tap through a water filtration system. A good one is made to filter the impurities from the water and you can really tell the difference in filtered water from ordinary tap water. Of the 50 different prescription drugs that are constantly found in tap water, estrogen is the biggest cause for concern for males. According to Environmental News Service 24 May 2010, “While researchers have not yet determined the effect of estrogen exposure from the water supply on humans, the sex mutations on aquatic life is enough cause for concern.”
Other culprits contributing to the estrogen levels in our drinking water supply include:
Industrially-raised livestock- The hormones pumped into industrially raised livestock often eventually find their way into municipal water supplies.
Pesticides- Carcinogenic pesticides are routinely applied to American food crops. Atrazine, which has been found to cause gender mutations in amphibians and fish, is one of these.
Prescription drugs- These include estrogen-laced birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy. What ever you do the one thing you never want to do is flush any drug down your toilet; many people think that the water treatment plant will clean the water. The problem is this is not true and it will come back to haunt you as residue in you and your family’s drinking water.
