Just turned 32, Britney Spears celebrates high protein, low carb diet benefits

After celebrating her birthday on Dec. 2 with carb-rich cake, Britney Spears is returning to the diet that she knows works best for her body: Low carb, high protein. The 32-year-old singer has been following this plan since struggling to shed her post-pregnancy weight in 2006.

"She wants to lose weight, but she’s having the most difficult time doing it," said a spokesperson for Britney at the time, according to Livin' La Vida Low-Carb. “Britney is feeling awful about herself right now.”

But Britney won her weight wars by cutting out the junk food and eating low carb foods. And she's been following that regime for more than seven years now.

To shape up for her former "X Factor" judging stint, for example, she was "cutting out carbs," according to Foodista. And now that she's become the hottest act in Las Vegas, Britney is continuing that plan.

Bistro MD reports that Britney's high protein, low carb diet focuses on lean protein and high fiber vegetables. A sample day in her diet:

  • Breakfast: An egg-white omelet with veggies
  • Lunch: Salad with lean protein such as chicken or salmon
  • Dinner: Lean protein with steamed vegetables

Her trainer Tony Martinez said that Britney is currently continuing her "intense protein-heavy diet," reported Hollyscoop.

"Smart nutrition is half the battle. I help her understand portion size and the difference between healthy and not healthy foods," added Tony.

"I am just trying to up her protein level. She is doing so much with rehearsals and with me and she does not have a lot of time. We try to make sure that she has between 75-80 grams of protein a day," noted Tony.

And Britney's exercise is intense.

"I change up her workouts all the time. She is really a hard worker."
