Lil’ Wayne’s seventh album Rebirth, is set to drop on December 15. Rebirth, Wayne’s foray into rock n’ roll, was originally set for a spring, then summer release. The first single “Prom Queen” released in January failed to generate the buzz of his earlier rap singles. “Prom Queen” maxed-out at #15 on the Billboard top 100. The second single “Hot Revolver” was released on iTunes in March. Rumors circulated that Rebirth would either be shelved entirely or included as a double CD with Tha Carter IV. A compilation CD titled, We Are Young Money, featuring members of the Young Money roster including, Drake, may be packaged with Rebirth.
Wayne made news last month by pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stemmed from a plea related to a New York weapons possession arrest in 2007 when a gun was found on his tour bus. Wayne will likely spend a year in prison. The rapper’s next court appearance for sentencing is coincidentally December 15, which could limit his ability to promote his experimental new project.
Wayne’s rock album displays his newly developed guitar skills alongside guest appearances from, Lenny Kravitz, Fall Out Boy, Travis Barker and Drake. Rebirth was completed late this past summer and Wayne is said to be working on Tha Carter IV. No word on a drop date for the latter album.
