Even though summer has officially ended it’s not too late to enjoy summer fruits like peaches. As we transition into the fall season it’s nice to reflect on the fun times we shared with family and friends this summer.
What we do not want to do this fall is get into bad eating habits. For an example, it’s not healthy to grab junk food for snacks. We all live busy lives and it’s crucial to nourish our bodies with healthy foods. One healthy fruit you can eat for a snack is an organic peach. Now if you have diabetes, you may think peaches have too much sugar. Not true. Of course, if your blood glucose is high you should not be eating any fruit until it is lowered. You should talk with your doctor about how to handle high blood glucose so you have a plan in place. Don’t ever let your blood glucose stay elevated as that is dangerous for your body.
It’s the perfect time to enjoy eating a fresh organic peach. It can even make you feel “just peachy.” Peaches contain vitamins A, C, and E. Also, they contain thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, B6, folate, panthothenic acid (vitamin B5), and fiber. In addition, peaches provide zinc, phosphorus, copper, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. Did you know peaches supply the cells with essential nutrients and glucose which keep your body energized?
When you have diabetes it’s imperative to have your glucose balanced. You definitely do not want extreme highs and lows when it comes to your blood glucose. Not only will you feel horrible but this will create an enormous amount of stress on the body. Junk foods will increase your glucose but a peach will stabilize it.
Next time you need a healthy snack reach for a peach! Until next time…I’m feeling “just peachy.”
