When hamburgers and cheeseburgers are placed side-by-side on a platter we go for the cheeseburger every time. It is amazing how just one slice of cheese can create and transform a beef patty into a mouth-watering burger with so many flavors.
Years and years ago the choice was limited. American cheese with the yellow coloring was the only cheese choice for burgers. Eventually white American cheese was used. This type of cheese had a mild taste and properties that enable the cheese to melt quickly.
As the times changed so did the choices of cheese for topping a burger. Now people are enjoying cheeses that are bold, sharp and tangy. Introducing different cheese to create a cheeseburger not only gives them new and interesting flavors to the table but also an array of textures to savor.
Try these cheeses next time cheeseburgers are on the menu:
- Blue cheese
- Mild or sharp cheddar
- Buttery brie
- Goat cheese
- Swiss cheese
- Pimento cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
- Monterey Jack
