Are you just married, or are you "healthy married"?
At one of our book signings some time ago for our book entitled, "Marriage for Today: A Practical Guide for Couples", we had an elderly couple visit our table. The husband waddled up and inquired as to what this table was all about.
I answered, "We're having a book signing for our book."
"What kind of book is it?, he asked.
" It's a marriage book. For couples..."
He quickly interrupted with, "Ah... I don't need a marriage book! I've been married 52 years! I don't need a marriage book!" He turned to his wife behind him and asked, "Right Ethel?"
She rudely quipped, "Ah, quit your whining and let's go!"
And so they waddled away, grumbling, miserable and not looking very happy.
It was then that it occurred to me that it really was not about the length of time- about quantity, but about quality of marriage. Yes they've been married 52 years, but is it a good, happy, healthy 52 years? The answer was glaringly obvious.
So, we pose this same question to you. Are you "just married," or are you "healthy married?" There is a difference.
