Last Saturday, April 12, 2014, members of the Fort Wayne Cat Fanciers and Just Cat-In Around Cat Fanciers Association cat clubs met at the Melvindale Ice Arena for their Spring Fling cat show. A grand total of 185 cats and 41 kittens from breeds as diverse as Balinese, Devon Rexes, Exotics, Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats, Oriental Shorthairs, Persians of all colors and color combinations, Ragdolls, Russian Blues, and Siamese attended the show. They competed in the following divisions: Non-Championship Longhair Kittens, Non-Championship Shorthair Kittens, Championship Longhair Adults, Championship Shorthair Adults, Premiership Longhair Alters, and Premiership Shorthair Alters. Judges for the event were Loretta Baugh, John Colilla, Gene Darrah, Diana Doernberg, Gary Powell, and Jeri Zottoli. Click on the accompanying slide show for a look at some of the competitors.

This summer another three cat shows will be presented in the metro Detroit area. Anthony Wayne Cat Fanciers will present their 39th annual show in Ann Arbor on Sat. May 10. According to spokesperson Cathy Hawley, on July 27, the Motor City Jazz Club and Midwest Persian Tabby Fanciers will host a six-ring combined show at the Taylor Sportsplex. In August, the Midwest Persian Tabby Fanciers will return to the Taylor venue for another show, but the date has not yet been set.
