Just can’t get enough of the food and fun at Fig&Olive

This has been the Diva’s week for Fig and Olive. Last night we hit the trendy spot again to meet a friend from Newport Beach who was in town and wanted to get a heads up on the restaurant that is opening near him on December 20 at Fashion Island. We went to sample the fare at the restaurant’s nightly ‘Aperitivo Happy Hour’ where special drinks cost $9 and tasting plates are $7.

Perched on a cushy white sofa, surrounded by fellow holiday revelers at the bar or seated at little tables, we ordered one of each plate, an Italian, French and Spanish assortment of delicious goodies (see slideshow) that came with truffle coquettes, stuffed figs, prosciutto and other delights created by executive chef Pascal Lorange.

Richard and our friend Glenn ordered cocktails ($9). Richard had the El Matador made with tequila, rum, fresh lime juice, cilantro syrup and muddled jalapeno. Glenn did the cucumber cosmo which is made with organic cucumber Vodka, St.Germain, cucumber puree amd fresh lime juice, served straight up. While they were both somewhat satisfied with those drinks, Richard switched to a dirty martini (which he liked better, but wasn't on the happy hour list and cost alot more at $16) and Glenn went for a glass of wine for his second shot. The Diva did her wine at first but wasn’t too happy with the selection which included a Cotes de Provence rose, a Lombardy Pinot Noir and a French Sauvignon Blanc so after one glass of the Pinot Noir she opted for a Bynum from the pricier menu ($16). It was still worth it even though the final tab topped $100-plus. You pay for what your get and the food here whether tasting plates or full-course meals in the indoor dining room or out on the patio are always magnificent.

If you’re looking for a hip spot to meet friends for a holiday toast, Fig&Olive is the place. The clientele is a mixed bag of casually-chic celebrities, locals and visitors. The bar is always buzzing and the restaurant fills up around 8 p.m. so reservations are required.

Fig&Olive is located at Melrose Place and La Cienega Blvd. in West Hollywood, 310-3660-9100. Happy Hour is offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There is also a Wednesday Industry Night weekly at 7 p.m. with a social happy hour and dining at 9:30 p.m. with $8 signature cocktails and hors d’oeuvres plus champagne bottle service.
