Just Ask Dan: What is the meaning of life?

Dan,

I have long pondered what the meaning of life is. Of all things that have sparked my curiousity, this one takes the cake. Bless me with your mystical philisophical powers and help me to bring myself closer to the answer to this question.

Alex from Texas

Alex,

Every morning I wake up, brush my teeth, fix myself a cup of coffee, take the dog outside, and finally sit in front of my computer only to find that one or two people have sent me emails asking this very same question.

I have to be honest with you, it has always perplexed me because I thought almost everyone already knew about the Meaning of Life.  I usually just let the questions slide to the back of my inbox while I sift through it for more complex questions to tackle, but this morning it occurred to me that perhaps, just perhaps, if I just let people know the answer then I might stop getting this question.
