Just a few more days and our crab season will finally open. (Photos)

If you have drove down Hwy 101 past the harbor you must of seen all the crab cages lined up and ready to go, but no crab is being caught. That is because the season was delayed here in our area. We contacted the CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH and WILDLIFE to find out why. We were told that our season was delayed due to the colder water in our fishery. When the water is colder the shells do not harden. They have been checking the crab in our area and no matter what our season will open on January 15, 2013. The season will remain open until July 15, 2013.

Lets do what we can to support our local fisherman and not drive to Brookings, Oregon and buy their crab. Because tomorrow our very happy fisherman will be heading to sea to catch our own crab. They will be setting traps, but cannot pull them up until the 15th.

The fresh crab is coming so head to the store and get your butter.
