"Hello Dallas and Ft. Worth. Will you join us in our efforts to educate the public about jury nullification?"
"Juror rights activists have started a nationwide campaign to educate the public about our rights if selected for jury duty," Babb elaborated.
Three jury rights signs have been prominently displayed in Washington DC since October 10, including two pylon ads displayed at the Archives Metrorail station (see "Jury nullification going vertical in DC") and what's described as "a large, illuminated diorama ad" at the Judiciary Square station.
Funding for the signs was raised through the crowdfunding website gofundme.com. Efforts to raise more money for additional ads in DC have already begun.
In less than one week nearly $3,000 was raised to start the campaign. Based on this success, future ad locations are in the works for New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. Los Angeles and New York City already have GoFundMe sites up and running.
Babb explained the purpose of the campaign is to teach people about jury nullification.
"Every juror has the power to say 'not guilty' if they disagree with the law. Every juror has the power to judge the facts of the case, the law itself, and whether or not the law is being misapplied. This is the power of jury nullification, a centuries-old tradition that goes back to the Magna Carta. A single juror with a conscience can send a peaceful man home to his family instead of to a cage."
Babb points out that many in the jury rights movement were inspired by the dogged determination of former Penn State professor Dr. Julian Heicklen "who has travelled the country to pamphlet near courthouses, informing potential jurors of their right to nullify bad laws. We want to build on his work."
Dallas Libertarian Examiner and companion site Libertarian News Examiner produced over three dozen articles covering Heicklen's career as a jury rights activist.
Today's "justice system" is polluted with victimless crimes and unjust laws, Bab complains. "As the 'justice system' becomes more corrupt, the role of the juror becomes more important than ever."
Babb reminds all jury rights activists nationwide, including North Texans, "If you would like to see jury nullification ads in your own town email firstname.lastname@example.org."
