Dinosaurs are heading back to the big screen! Entertainment Weekly reported on Friday, Jan. 11 that the latest film in the popular dinosaur franchise, Jurassic Park IV, has been given a release date of June 13, 2014 by Universal Pictures. Fans of the film franchise will also be able to see the original film this year when it re-releases in theaters nationwide in 3D and IMAX 3D on April 5. The release also coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the first film.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, the original Jurassic Park is based on the novel of the same name by author Michael Crichton and was released in 1993. The epic adventure starred Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, and Laura Dern. The second film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, followed in 1997 and featured Goldblum alongside newcomers Julianne Moore and Pete Postlethwaite. Jurassic Park III was released in 2001 with William H. Macy, Tea Leoni and saw the return of Neill as Dr. Alan Grant.
The fourquel comes after a thirteen year gap in films, due mostly to issues with the script and production. Spielberg is expected to be an executive producer on the new film, and will have more time to focus on making it a reality after his latest directorial project, the futuristic Robopocalypse, was recently postponed. He will produce the film with Frank Marshall and no director has been chosen.
Fans of the series can go ahead and mark their calendars for Jurassic Park IV to be released on June 13, 2014. Check out the official website for more information about the series.
