Junior Gold tournament was held in Buffalo, New York the week of July 12 – July 18. Along with this tournament is the Youth Open Tournament and the Survivor Tournament, youth/adult tournament, Team USA Qualifier.

We had 12 kids qualify for this tournament within the Gulf Coast USBC Association, from centers, such as Seminole Lanes, Liberty Lanes, Sunrise Lanes.

The following youth bowlers got the experience of a lifetime: Marques Houston, Daniel Doss, Phillip Reckner, Sarah Sudduth, Gerald Houston, Kristian Sieradzki, Duke Crouch, Jacob Myers, Hannah Diem, Emma Elfrink, Nick Kominik, Mitch Huett.

Each of these youth bowlers had to qualify in order to be able to go to this National Tournament. They may have qualified in a league or tournament. Both Liberty Lanes & Seminole Lanes offers a Junior Gold League. Tournaments that the kids have qualified in are Southwest Florida Classic, Burkins Bowling Tournament, Landen Tournament and Liberty Lanes Bomber Tournament.

This year in Buffalo, Hannah Diem qualified for the 2015 Junior Gold Tournament through the Survivor Tournament in Buffalo. She placed 2nd and won a spot. Liberty Lanes had their monthly youth tournament with a Junior Gold qualifier on July 26th and Marques Houston & Emma Elfrink won their spots in the 2015 Junior Gold Tournament.

At the Junior Gold Tournament:

After Thursday’s qualifying, Junior Gold took the top 12 to advance to the next round and then they take the top 8 to move on to bracket play. Hannah Diem bowled in the Under 12 Girls division. She ended up in 58th place out of 84 games.

The week before the Junior Gold Tournament, Hannah & Kristian competed in The Teen Masters Tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Next year's tournament will be held in Las Vegas Nevada.

In the Under 15 division girls, Thursday afternoon they took the top 16 to advance to the Double Elimination Match Play round. Emma Elfrink came in 11th place. After the match play round, Emma ended up in 13th place.

In the Under 15 boys division, Thursday afternoon they took the top 24. After the 15 games of qualifying Mitch Huett came in 115th place, Jacob Myers came in 138th place, Duke Crouch came in 148th place, Phillip Reckner came in 162nd place, Marques Houston came in 222nd place, out of 341 bowlers.

In the Under 20 division girls, there were 604 girls bowling. After the third day of qualifying they took the top 86 to move onto the semifinals. Sarah Sudduth came in 518th place.

In the Under 20 division boys, Thursday afternoon, they took the top 16 to advance to the Double Elimination Match Play round. Each round of bowling the officials would take the top bowlers and then move on to the next qualifying round. There were 1095 bowlers in the first round of bowling. After bowling 15 games they took the top 158 bowlers. So on Monday they bowled 5 games, then Tuesday 5 games and Wednesday 5 games. So after the 15 games, Kristian Sieradzki came in 451st place, Daniel Doss came in 836 place, Nick Kominik came in 932nd place, Gerald Houston cane in 971st place came in They took the top 158 bowlers and they advanced to bowl on Thursday, July 17 at 8 am at AMF Airport Bowl.

This was an awesome experience for all the bowlers, and they are all looking forward to qualifying and going to DuPage, Illinois in 2015. The kids get to meet and talk to pro bowlers, some that I saw that the kids got to talk to and get pictures taken were Tommy Jones, Walter Ray Williams, Chris Barnes and many more. The kids saw Allen Solomon our Florida State USBC Youth Pepsi Director. He was asked by Junior Gold to come out and work the tournament.

I want to thank Mike Bongiorno from Pro Line Bowling Supply for his support in our league, and for the great shirts he provided to the kids. Thank you to Ed Huett for being there to coach the kids every Tuesday night. Thank you to Yolanda Houston for filling in for me nights that I was unable to be at the center. Thank you Sean Crosby for helping out with the kids. Thanks to all the parents, Jill Huett & Karen, Heather Gilkey, Lori & Todd Cameron, Don Gilkey, Barbara Dann, Joe Minarik Valerie Doss, John Myers, Bruce Reckner, Andrea Sieradzki, Monica & Andrew Kominik, JC Crouch, Heidi Diem, Lori Sudduth, for bringing your children to league & bringing them to Junior Gold qualifier tournaments and for helping out during our fundraisers, the bowl-a-thon at Seminole Lanes, cookie dough fundraiser, and the car wash at Seminole Lanes and fundraiser at Liberty Lanes. I would like to thank Kevin Krauss, Cory Krauss, Mark Palmer, Janet Waddell for their support and Ryne Podlas and Ziggy Podlas, and Dana Marsilio, who we work with every Tuesday night at Seminole Lanes. I hope I did not forget anyone.
