In this week's new releases, we have the comedic version of Back to the Future (1985) in Hot Tub Time Machine where four guys in a rut find themselves back in time with an opportunity to change their future. Next we have Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief where modern day mixes with Greek mythology and Percy must find the real lightning thief before Zeus wages a war that can destroy the whole world. Then we have two disturbing films, The Crazies and The White Ribbon. In The Crazies, contaminated water turns an entire town into infectious murderers, killing each other. In The White Ribbon, it is pre-World War I and the children of a small town may be behind some dark mysterious events that lead to the thought-provoking question of whether the mentality of these children may have influenced the outcome of German history. Finally, a different type of danger lurks in the Guatemalan jungle where humans are hunted as prey in the new Blu-ray re-release, Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition.
Hot Tub Time Machine is comedy about four guys who are unhappy with their current lives and find themselves back in time with a chance to change it all. Adam (John Cusack) is unlucky in love and keeps getting dumped. His nephew Jacob (Clark Duke) is a video game addict, lives in Adam's basement and has no idea who his father is. Lou (Rob Corddry) is way too old to be partying like it is 1999. Nick (Craig Robinson) has an unhappy marriage with a cheating controlling wife Courtney (Kellee Stewart) and hates his loser job.
When Lou loses his party mojo, the guys decide to rememeber the good times at one of their favorite spots, the Kodiak Valley Ski Resort. Drinking away their woes at the hot tub, they wake up to find themselves back in Winterfest '86 when Poison rocked the Kodiak Resort. Far, far from present Los Angeles, Adam, Lou and Nick all look like their younger selves to everyone else and when they look at their own reflections; only they can see each other as their older selves. Since Jacob had not been born yet, he is the only one who looks the same.
Initially, Adam, Lou and Nick are afraid their actions may alter time and try to replicate their past actions. However after some thinking, they wondered if this was an opportunity to change their future. Initially, all goes well with Adam meeting April (Lizzy Caplan) after he gets dumped by his first girlfriend Jennie (Lyndsy Fonseca), Lou finds the courage to face his nemesis Blaine (Sebastian Stan) and Nick and his band are ready to rock the crowd. The thrill is short-lived when they realize their actions may wipe out Jacob's existence. Now the guys will have to find a way to make sure Jacob is still conceived by Adam's sister Kelly (Collette Wolfe) and improve all their futures at the same time.
There are several 1980s film star guest appearances: Chevy Chase as the Repair Man, Crispin Glover as Phil and William Zabka as Rick.

White is the color of purity and innocence.
Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated The White Ribbon (Das weisse Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte) is a black and white dramatic foreign film written and directed by Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke. Years later, an elderly tailor (Ernst Jacobi) who was once a school teacher (Christian Friedel) recants his time in a small town called Eichwald located in northern Germany, where he met his fiancée Eva (Leonie Benesch). It is fifteen months prior to the beginning of World War I, between 1913 and 1914. The seemingly quiet town is run by the wealthy baron (Ulrich Tukur) who employs most of the townspeople, the local pastor (Burghart Klaußner) who preaches strict puritanical values and the seemingly friendly doctor (Rainer Bock) who has a much darker side. Behind the veil of purity where the pastor ties a white ribbon around the arm of each of his two eldest children, Martin (Leonard Proxauf) and Klara (Maria-Victoria Dragus), there are strange happenings.
A field of cabbages have been attacked by a scythe. One of the baron's children Sigmund (Fion Mutert) disappears and is found bound and whipped. A midwife's (Susanne Lothar) handicapped child Karli (Eddy Grahl) is severely beaten and left with a warning of divine punishment; later they both disappear never to be seen again. A farmer's wife falls through rotting floorboards and dies; later the farmer has hung himself as well. The molesting doctor falls off his horse after it trips from a wire between two trees. Even the pastor's parrot is has been stabbed by a pair of scissors.
The school teach grows suspicious and believes that Klara and some of the village children have formed a secret society and are the bullies behind these horrible events. When he confronts the pastor, he is rebuffed as the pastor cannot believe children can be evil and strongly defend his belief of innocence. Could the pastor be wrong? Can those children, who harbor desires to revolt and dominate with violence as a result of their oppressive upbringing , be the explanation for the later events in German history?
