Jumping, mounted shooting, roping lead January's 2nd weekend

The Midwest’s frigid blast is expected to give way to red-hot competitions for area equestrians. Horse lovers are loading up trailers for hunter/jumper, mounted shooting, open sorting, roping, and other shows and excitement.

Horse happenings are on-deck for Saturday, January 11, through Sunday, January 12.

Participants and spectators, as usual, are advised to call horse show and event venues ahead to confirm times and other details. Last-minute changes and cancellations often occur.

Betty Kowalski teaches a Ranch Clinic on Halter, Showmanship, Horsemanship, and Equitation at Galloping Grove Ranch, in Union Grove, Wisconsin, on January 11.

In Anoka, Minnesota, the Minnesota Mounted Shooters Association’s Winter Series continues at the M and D Arena on January 11.

Also on January 11, the Heart of Illinois Arena, in Peoria, Illinois, hosts Open Sorting for competitors of all ages.

In DeKalb, Illinois, Chase Valley Ranch adds a January 11 installment to its Winter Ropings – Saddle and Awards Series.

Sapphire Riding Academy, of Mettawa, Illinois, holds a Grand Opening Party on January 11.

The Wisconsin Quarter Horse Association’s Awards Convention 2014 is set for January 11 at the Wintergreen Resort and Convention Center, in Lake Delton, Wisconsin.

On January 12, in Gurnee, Illinois, Fields and Fences School of Horsemanship presents an Open Hunter/Jumper Horse Show.
