Do you have hobbies ? Are you enjoying your current hobbies ? Are they healthy activities such as sports OR sedentary activities like reading ? Do your current hobbies help enrich your life ? After all the excitement of the Christmas and New Year holidays, you must be spending a regular life at the moment.
As you may know, January is National Hobby Month. If you have no hobby you can enjoy apart from your main occupation, it is a good time to jump-start the brand new hobby in January. If you devote yourself only to working hard, the balance of your mind and body may be impaired and eventually you will suffer from mental disease. In order to avoid such unfavorable situation, having hobbies is a very good idea.
As a floral arrangement instructor, I do believe the expression of “Sound mind in sound body”. Everybody needs a recreational time and we must spend a valuable and pleasant time by forgetting a difficult job and hard working. If you are engaged in sedentary occupation, you need to do sports such as playing tennis, golf, going on a hiking, swimming etc etc. If you use your body and muscle for your daily job, it may be a good idea to have a sedentary hobby such as reading books, playing musical or going to a movie theater etc.
From time to time, my floral design school is approached by people who would like to work on flower arranging because they love flowers and like floral art. Some of them are interested in European floral designs and some of them show interest in Japanese traditional floral art called Ikebana. Since I have official license of both European and Japanese floral designs, I have been teaching both arrangements to uncountable number of students both in Japan and America.
What I like is that our students express appreciation to me saying that they can forget difficult time and hard job while working on flower arrangements. Especially after earning a certain level of flower arranging skills, they are able to make their own floral decorations at any time they like. They can make interior decoration with a display of floral arrangement whenever they want and wherever they like.
I am pretty sure that many people are interested in floral arrangements. And lots of people would like to learn floral art for hobby. In the case of flower arrangement hobby, they don’t need to go to a special place such as tennis court, swimming pool or movie theater to enjoy their hobby. They can enjoy a happy time at home without going out by thinking about the type of design and decoration they make.
At the time of being invited to an event such as a birthday party etc., you can make floral gift with your own idea and design and bring such gift to your friend who invited you to the party. Or if you like, you can help the decoration of church or office whenever you like. People surrounding you feel very impressed with your floral decoration and they highly appreciate your help.
Judging from my experiences, I believe that the skill of flower arrangement helps your life enriched. And the skill of floral art is a lifetime property. Once you have earned a skill of floral designs, it will never be depreciated in its value unlike other types of properties regardless of the economic situation.
There are various kinds of floral arrangements such as European floral designs, Japanese Ikebana arrangement, fresh flower decoration, dried flower or silk flower arrangement whatsoever. It is fully up to you what kind of floral art you learn. I am teaching a variety of floral designs from European arrangement to Japanese Ikebana, regular table arrangement to hand-tied bouquets, simple and tiny designs to large ones which fit a spacious place such as the hall of hotels and corporate arrangements.
