One part denim, one part leggings—two times the style. Jeggings are the natural born baby of jeans and stretch leggings, with stretch being the operative word. These “pants” have all the comfort of your favorite leggings (and we all know these are akin to wearing your pjs around town) and all of the slimming, style-forward prowess of your most treasured jeans. Seriously? Jeggings are almost too good to be true.
Before you wrinkle up your nose at the thought of wearing denim this snug, even if it is insanely comfortable, let’s talk about the number one rule of wearing jeggings: unless you are under 21, or have some with a sassy back pocket flap that rounds out your backside, you really should treat these as leggings when considering the rest of your look. Most of us would not wear leggings with a cropped top—same applies to jeggings. Longer shirts, jackets, sweaters are the very most flattering partners for the jegging.
That being stated up front—let’s look at the three types of jeggings that are hot for fall:
Get Some Jegs on Your Legs. First, you’ve got your basics. Dark wash is a must-do for date nights, but faded blues are chic for daytime. Look for pairs that fit snuggly, but don’t cause any tummy overflow on top. These indigo jeggings from American Eagle at Inland Center ($29.95), are slimming, and classic. Pair with a silk tunic and layer on some bangles for a sexy dinner-for-two look.
Strike a Cord. Nothing says fall like a pair of cords—but get them right this season by wearing them extra slim. Pair these daytime duds with a cozy chunky knit sweater in an on-trend fair-isle print for a stylishly-lounging-by-the-fire look all day long (Nordstrom at The Oaks, $159).
Pocket Full of Panache. Layer on some attitude by adding some stylish cargo style pockets to your jeggings this year. Dress these up with heels and a sequined tank or sass up your next shopping outing by wearing them with a lightweight slouchy sweater. We spotted this studded pair at bebe in Los Cerritos Center ($89.90).
