Academy Award-nominated Christopher Nolan's psychological thriller Insomnia (2002) comes to Blu-ray for the very first time. It is a remake of the 1997 Norwegian film by Erik Skjoldbjærg. Academy Award winner Al Pacino stars as the veteran LAPD detective Will Dormer who is dispatched to Nightmute, Alaska with his partner Hap Eckhart (Martin Donovan) to investigate the murder of a young local 17-year-old girl named Kay Connell (Crystal Lowe). During a stakeout to lure the perpetrator back to the scene of the crime, they are forced to spread out and enter a heavily fogged area to follow the suspect. Will accidently shoots and kills his partner, mistaking him for the suspect. At first, everyone else believes the suspect shot Hap and Will does not come forward with the truth. He is fearful that everyone would think he did it intentionally because he is under investigation in Los Angeles for planting evidence and Hap was going to testify against him.
Guilt-ridden and unable to sleep in the town where the sun never sets in the summer, Will becomes increasingly delusional as he fears his secret will be discovered by local police officer Ellie Burr (Academy Award winner Hilary Swank), who is in charge of investigating Hap's death. When Kay's killer (Academy Award winner Robin Williams) calls Will to tell him that he knows what Will did, it may be just enough to push him over the edge. Forging a bond with the killer to keep his secret safe, the killer forces him to frame Kay's abusive boyfriend Randy Stetz (Jonathan Jackson) as the murderer. Fighting the insomnia and delusions, will his conscience help him find his way to take responsibility for his actions and bring the real killer to light?

This is a really solid film, and one of Nolan's that a lot of people don't know about. Thanks for reminding us it's debuting on Blu-ray the week of Inception's release!
Thanks
I may sleep through this one ;)
Can't wait to add this to my Blu Ray collection...the scenery must be stunning in high def!
