On Monday night, Julio Jones and the Atlanta Falcons played a disheartening game against the underdog New York Jets. It got even worse for fans and fantasy team owners on October 8, when ESPN reported that Julio Jones' season might be over.
Already plagued with a knee injury, Jones was questionable going into the Monday night match up. Though there was no obvious point of injury for the star Falcons player, it has been reported the following day that medical tests on Julio Jones' foot point to a more serious issue.
X-rays following the football game on Monday night came back clear but a CT scan from Tuesday morning did not. It is unclear whether Jones will be back this season or not, as he is seeking a second opinion. Jones contends that the foot pain is bearable and is shocked that this may end his season.
If surgery is necessary, or even a lengthy recovery time is needed, Julio Jones may very likely be sitting out for the rest of the season. The Atlanta Falcons current record is 1-4. With very little chance to even make the playoffs, they would be foolish to rush their star wide receiver back and risk further injury.
This does pose a major issue for fantasy team owners who relied heavily on Julio Jones though. Many are scrambling this week to fill a great big hole in their roster.
