For the avid, worldly music fans: you may have encountered Julieta Venegas in the nineties, when she came into an industry with already established Latin Pop acts like Shakira, Thalia, and Paulina Rubio. Despite never reaching the international successes of said contemporaries, Julieta has avoided hitting the career lows that pop acts tend to endure as time progresses. In fact, it could be said that Venegas has actually benefited from this, essentially getting bigger and maintaining a loyal following over time.
To most, her Mexican folk music, and signature accordion, may not sound pop enough, but she has dabbled into poppy tunes as much as she has created a repertoire of emo themes and frank lyrics. To some, she may have made an appearance in their iPods via Nelly Furtado, who shared the spotlight with Julieta when she ventured into the Spanish-speaking world of music. To others, she may have made an appearance via another strong, female artist and rapper, Mala Rodriguez.
