Julie Chu walked in to the Fisht Olympic stadium proudly carrying the American flag for Team USA on Sunday. She joined other flag bearers from around the world in a special ceremony where all the flags were put together for the Olympics Closing Ceremony. Smiling and waving, the silver medalist seemed delighted to be part of the tradition of walking the flag for America along with other athletes from different countries. This moment seemed to touch Americans watching the Closing Ceremony as they gave props to the athlete on social media. According to Team USA on Friday, the decision for Julie Chu to be the flag bearer couldn't have been given to a more deserving for the athlete.

Julie Chu won a silver medal in Sochi for Olympic Women’s Hockey. While the United States was defeated by Canada, they still came home winners and USA couldn't be more proud.

While athletes love their sport, the only bigger honor at the Olympic Games is to carry the flag of their country. Julie Chu’s ceremonial position full of tradition, it gives people an opportunity to focus on the athlete that had made a unique contribution to the team and check out the colors of the country.

It’s going to be great to see Julie Chu walk in with the American Flag at the Sochi Olympics one final time before the Olympic flame is extinguished.
