On the show, “The Talk,” each host was supposed to reveal a secret about themselves. Julie Chen admitted that she underwent cosmetic surgery to correct her Asian looking eyes. It wasn’t for vanity reasons. She did it to get ahead in her career.
According to Reality Blurred, When Julie worked as a news reporter in Ohio, she wanted to climb the ladder and be a news anchor. She asked her boss if she could have the job, but he refused her request. It wasn’t because she didn’t have the qualifications; it was because she was Chinese and had Asian eyes. She went to see a major agent told her, “‘I cannot represent you unless you get plastic surgery to make your eyes look bigger.”
She confessed that when she watched herself on TV or saw pictures of herself, all she could see was her narrow, squinty eyes. In 1996, she said she had the plastic surgery. But according to Reality Tea, that is not the first time she has told people about her big secret. In 2004, a question was asked how many times that CBS Early Show Julie Chen has gone under the knife. Her response to the New York Post’s page six was “Eight years ago I had eye surgery I’ve talked about publicly many times. Other than that, I’ve had to make do with what God gave me.”
Therefore, Julie Chen’s secret was not one that she had never told in public before.
